I have had some positive feedback from various warden schemes operating throughout the country and now I'd like to ask any of our members who have dealings with these schemes if they feel having access to a list of registered stolen vehicles would be of benefit to them.
The basic principle of the project is that, members of the public email us details of their stolen vehicle (which we then confirm with the Police) prior to adding the vehicle details to the master databse.
Regional Police forces may add details of stolen vehicles to the databse directly and have the ability to remove details when the vehicle has been recovered.
Bona fide security companies and registered security officers will have a 'read only' access to the database.
The database would primarily be used by the ever vigilant security personnel within the UK to assist Police in locating stolen vehicles as they go about their normal duties but offers an added advantage of checking up on suspicious vehicles on or around premises they are guarding that may be involved in criminal or terrorist activity. |

In Vancouver, we have the Downtown Ambassadors, which is now operated through Initial Security.
It operates along the same lines as the Street Wardens scheme. We find that the Auto Recovery program is one of the most effective measures to bring down auto theft crime in the area. So much so, that most theives have gone to other areas to conduct their business.
However, you have to have the proper equipment, the right training and dedicated personnel, as well as the co-operation of the local Police and Insurance companies to effectively pull off such a scheme.

I would be very interested in seeing the response of the Police to this. We have a Council abandoned vehicle team as well as Council parking Wardens, all of who could benefit. John, if you can put a written brief together I will happily take it to our Borough Commander to get his vies. |

The more I look into this project the more difficult it seems it is going to be coding the darn thing and keeping the data secure.
Yes I'll put a brief together TODAY along with the other text you asked for a while back (done it but didnt get around to sending it). |
