Three armed and masked men robbed a substantial amount of cash from a cash in transit van outside of the Royal Bank of Scotland in Radcliffe on Tuesday, 10 May 2005.
At around 2.05pm two security guards were making a collection at the rear of the bank on Blackburn Street when three men in a silver coloured Mitsubishi Sigma estate pulled up alongside them. Two men, wearing balaclavas and dark clothing got out of the car armed with a long sword and a wooden baton.
The men approached a guard who was outside of the van and punched him to the floor. A second security man, who was inside of the van, was threatened by the men and the first security guard was then struck on the back with the flat side of the sword. The security men handed over a substantial amount of cash and the two offenders got back into the Mitsubishi which sped off.
The car, which had been reported stolen from an address in Middleton on 28 April 2005, was found a short time later on Ulundi Street.
The injured security guard was taken to Fairfield Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries to his face and back.
Detective Sergeant Derek BAMFORD said, ?Following this armed robbery yesterday many people have contacted us to say that they witnessed the incident and we are grateful for their calls. However, the information that we really need now is to find out where the Mitsubishi has been since it was stolen at the end of April. We would like to hear from anyone who may have suddenly noticed this car in their street or parked in a garage somewhere.
We would also like to speak to anyone who may have seen the men getting into a second car which we believe would have been parked on Ulundi Street prior to the robbery. If anyone in that particular area noticed anything at all unusual I would ask them to contact the CID office on 0161 856 8150.?
Information can also be given anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. |
