Training.........Training
(Screamed in the same manner that Peter Kay would say "Garlic Bread")

Just what the "Flip" is going on ????????

Little tale to tell here. Strange but true.

Company X writes to the City & Guilds of London in order to gain the necessary accreditation to provide C&G courses.

Ok, no problem with that. Company X wants to do things by the book, pay the relevant fees, be assessed, audited, prodded and probed by the C&G so all is legal and above board. Very Happy

Now then........ Shocked

Initial contact with the C&G is made by email requesting the application pack.

First response from C&G - "first of all are you a Sito centre?"

Scratch head a bit...... Question

Line two of email response - "if not then we would not sell the CD rom to none approved centres as this is part of the package when you apply to become a centre"

Scratch head even more....... Question Question Question

"Duh" - 'Scuse me, but the initial approach was FOR the package to become an accreditted C&G course provider and we already know the CD rom is supplied with the Thousand and odd quid fee you require.

BUT THE POINT IS.....

What the F**k have SITO got to do with it Question

What if a company prefers to associate themselves with other recognised industry related organisations such as BSIA, JSIC, NSI, IPSA, PSIA, BIIAB, APPSS, ASC, PSA, SSAIB or The Security Watchdog etc, and NOT SITO Question Question Question

Not every company wishes to be associated with SITO.

Do they now dictate to the City & Guilds ?

Have I missed something here or did someone die and make SITO God of the Security Industry Question

Well if they DID, then what is the response from the other major players mentioned above Question

Your views, criticism, praise, abuse or whatever on this posting are eagerly anticipated and welcomed.

Off now to put toys back in pram..........for now Exclamation

Regards to all,

Mike.

PS: Best wishes for a speedy recovery John.

This just goes and proves a point I made a while ago, that the only people to gain anything with the license is SITO (assuming this is one of your reasons for wanting the award) Twisted Evil

SITO dont have anything to do with C&Gapart from making sure certifications are invigulated and rgisterered with C&G I could be wrong
if so Iapologise in advance
so if you are a compny who want to go the legal road and if sito say no then you are knackered

this is totally unbelievable it really beggers belief

This needs looking into in more depth than I currently have time for.
I'm sure this cannot be right.
I'll find time to look at some legislation though regarding unfair competition and maybe pass it on to any number of legal eagles who are members here.

Hi Mike

It might be worthwhile for you to look at being accredited by a different agency, Edexel, NOCN or Learn Direct (though NOCN are now in bed with SITO) perhaps. I know that some of these loose exam papers or make a balls of exams but Edexel offer BTEC qualifications C&G offer qualifications one day and make them disappear the next (eg C&G 7278 no longer exists and C&G themselves don't know or wont tell what has become of it).

Good luck

Thanks Gazz,

Will definitely check out your suggestions.

It's time the SIA realised their lack of foresight is having serious repercussions throughout the industry.

I need only quote the current farce in licensing Door Supervisors.

I teach the course at Wigan & Leigh College and the college is booked solid for the D.Sups course until September NEXT year Exclamation

So much for the target set by the SIA for all D.Sups to be licensed by the end of this year.
I can imagine lots of clubs employing the biggest and meanest glass collectors & cleaners you've ever seen. Twisted Evil

What chance for the next stage of licensing for manned guarding in 2005 Exclamation :toimonster:

Oh well, keep safe all.

Mike.

Ihave just spoke to a friend who does the door supervisors training for westminister london and westminister will not
recognise the sia part1+2 training until next march the 6th so if your door licence runs out on march the first and you get a new licence on march the 2nd you have to pay your £300 pounds but on march the 6th westminister will scrap the licence you bought on march the 2nd and you will have to pay another £500 for a new licence
its tosh the sia could not run a bingo hall never mind the security industry
licencing
I went for an interview for a door job last night in camden london
was asked all the usual questions where have you worked ,what companies etc then was asked do I have a camden licence the reply was yes can i see it the interviewer asked so I showed him mylicence and sia part1+2 certification as well as other certification conflict management instructor, first aid trainers, use of force instructors , trainthe trainers 1+2
ECT was informed by the interviewer that my sia 1+2 will not be recognised in london until next march and that the council will recognize it then until then my local council badge will suffice
what the hell is going on

i dont think you will find that an SIA decision bigyin, more a westminister council one. they get the money for the next wesminister badge, not the SIA.

if thats the case then someone should inform the SIA of westminister councils intention. Besides that im not entirely sure the westminister council are picking the dates. its legistlation, which mean if the home office say its live now, and westminister is doing its own thing, westminister will be in a spot of bother with the home office.

Hi Spooky,

The same can be said of the Manchester area.
The local district councils just want the cash but, as you rightly say, the dates given by the SIA are legislation.

I know from a licensing officer in the Wigan area that anyone operating without the SIA license after the cut off date of November 15th (for the NW region) WILL be out of work. No exceptions or excuses.

Unfortunately, I think those responsible for issuing licenses in the local council regions are going to "get away with the money", It' going to be the Club/Pub licensees that find themselves in the brown sticky stuff.

Anyone who has doubts about the SIA's intention to enforce the law should read the following:

http://www.the-sia.org.uk/pdf/Make-Sure.pdf

http://www.the-sia.org.uk/pdf/Enforcement-COP.pdf

I am not going to repeat my thoughts on the organization skills of the SIA again.
I think everyone here already knows my opinion.

Be safe all.

Mike.
