hi chaps, i currently work in security at a theme park in the uk.
we dont need the sia licence as yet, but the work i do is only seasonel.
so i was looking to go for my licence so i could work through the winter.
ive been told i can go on a course for £119 then i know about the £190 every 3 years for the sia licence.... what a piss take,,,, so we have to pay to work...ive been in security for 12 years now and it makes me sick .
i could understand it if all the security jobs were £10 plus an hour but im still seeing security company`s paying £5.05 an hour and want you to have the licence.... the company should need the licence and then vet people as they should do... what about police paying £190 every 3 years to work or the fire service or even staff at morrisons....this country is screwed up... time to go on benefits like all the rest of the lazy sods and reap the rewards.......

Hi Crane,
Bit late with the reply but there are lots of jobs where you "Need to pay to go to work".
Just think what a driving instructor or taxi driver has to fork out.
I do take your point, but there are lots of companies paying good money for licensed guards. There are even a few paying a "Signing on fee" - for SIA licence holders.........as much as £500 in some cases.
It's just the nature of the industry. Sorry dude.
