Please don't misunderstand me. I totally believe you were given this info.
It's just that we have 3 different awarding bodies we can use to certificate the D/Sups courses we run and have yet to hear anything about PI being included in the current training. Guess we'll have to wait and see.
If it is introduced, I would be very curious as to what format it takes and even more curious as to who is going to teach it
I can't help smiling at the thought.... |
well rumour has reached my ears of the appointed persons first aid course is to be a requirement for SG's and DS's licensing within 3 years, so it would not surprise me if this was the case too.
however... where is the expertise going to come from? it CANT come from train the trainers course.. it cant... ...can it...?
anyway like i said, the PI package is a loaded weapon waiting to go off. that small amount of knowledge will see an endemic rise in bruce lee syndrome and many many injured bods. |

God forbid.......there will be compensation claims by the truckload.
Incidentally, I can't see the point of using the "Apponited Persons" course for SG's and D/Sups. An appointed person can't actually perform first aid, they can only call an ambulance and restock the F/A Box.
I can envisage a day when all security operatives have to be F/A trained but this will have to be the full 4 day HSE course to be of any use.
Lets face it.....you will need all the First Aid training you can get to treat all the injuries sustained from the Bruce Lee wannabes on the PI courses
Laugh......I almost wet meself |

i would laugh if it was not so tragic.
re: the first aid courses - tell the 'experts' who make the decisions that. actually, dont bother, they know best. |

I had it suggested to me (not by my trainer) to do the 4 day course. It's just a matter of money, right now. I think it's a bit OTT for a D/S though. I did a 1 day one a few years back, though. |

you think a four day first aid course is over the top for a door supervisor? |

Great to see some life back in the forums.
Spooky:
Sadly my friend, it would appear that the policy makers, no matter how well their intentions, consistently seem to miss the mark.
You and I both know that a one day F/A course is totally useless.
You and I both know that a short PI course is not only useless...it's potentially dangerous.
Sadly, a great deal of the experience that could be gathered from seasoned Security Operatives appears to be neither sought after or wanted.
Unless you are absolutely 100% certain of your abilities and legal rights, my advice to anyone in a high risk situation is.........leg it.
If you become a victim then you become part of the problem.....you're of no use to anyone.
Are you really paid enough to take a knife in the guts?
Discretion is the better better part of valour.
I'm sure your loved ones would sooner you came home safe and sound than be a dead hero.
Nuff said........soapbox is creaking.
Be safe all.
Mike. |

Mark: I intend to do the 4 day course when I have money; I do think that it's best to be safe than sorry and I want as many qualifications as possible under my belt.
Corsec: I signed the petition. |

Hi Lauren,
Have you tried your Local Tech College they somtimes run FA course at half the price, with the same result at the end of it, For Example our Local st johns & red cross charge about £190 -200 ish to do the 4 day course... the local tech charges £76 all in, not bad hey.
There are other people you can get the ticket from other than Red Cross or St Johns
