Combined units of Police Officers and Police Community Wardens are to hit the streets of Tameside in a major initiative to crack down on crime and anti-social behaviour.
Executice leader Roy Oldham announced the policing shake-up following discussions with GMP Cheif Constable Micheal Todd and Tamesides top cop, Sheif Superintendant David Crompton.
Each of the eight district assembly areas are to have a neighbourhood task force, heade by a senior police officer and a senior patroller who will work in tandem to decide where best to deploy the new policing units.
The force comprises 40 police officers, 40 patrollers and 14 community support officers, with an additional 10 patrollers over the next month.
Councillor Oldham said "This combined policing force, local in nature and location, will operate with over 100 officers". |
