General News: Stopping child abuse on the internet
Guild News

The Guild of Security UK Ltd is pleased and honoured to be able to support the Virtual Global Taskforce in its endeavours to make the internet a safer place for children and other vulnerable people.

The Virtual Global Taskforce (VGT) was created in 2003 as a direct response to lessons learned from investigations into on-line child abuse around the world. It is an international alliance of law enforcement and other agencies working together to make the Internet a safer place.

The mission of the Virtual Global Taskforce is:

  • to make the Internet a safer place;
  • to identify, locate and help children at risk; and
  • to hold perpetrators appropriately to account.

The Virtual Global Taskforce comprises the Australian High Tech Crime Centre, the National Crime Squad for England and Wales, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, the US Department of Homeland Security and Interpol.
Jim Gamble, Deputy Director General of the National Crime Squad, is the current Chair.

The Virtual Global Taskforce delivers innovative crime prevention and crime reduction initiatives to prevent and deter individuals from committing on-line child abuse. On-line child abuse includes searching for, sharing and downloading images of children being physically and sexually abused and “grooming” children in, for example, chat rooms with the intention of committing sexual abuse both on and off-line. Details of current and future initiatives are published on the Virtual Global Taskforce website.

Many of our registered and Premium members have children who regularly use the internet, initiatives such as this one are invaluable if we are to protect our children from peadophiles and other individuals who stalk the internet preying on the vulnerablility of young people.

With over 1/2 million visitors every month and the popularity of our own website rising daily, we have the ability to help VGT promote their initiative and spread this message across to others, making them aware of organisations and initiatives such as this.

If you find any suspicious or inapropriate internet activity please do not hesitate to report it to the Virtual Global Taskforce http://www.virtualglobaltaskforce.com/contactus/contactus.html

Guild of Security UK Ltd takes safe internet surfing seriously which is why, some time ago, we voluntarly joined with the Internet Content Rating Association (ICRA). Users, especially parents of young children, can then use filtering software to allow or disallow access to web sites based on the information declared in the ICRA label.
