First Prosecutions for unlicenced Door Supervisors
Four men from the Isle of Wight are the first to be prosecuted for working as door supervisors without a Security Industry Authority licence.
The four men appeared at Newport Magistrates Court on 22 October. They were found guilty of committing an offence under the Private Security Industry Act 2001 and were each given a conditional discharge and ordered to pay costs.
Further prosecutions are pending.

Regulatory Impact Assessment
Whenever new regulation is implemented Government departments have to undertake a Regulatory Impact Assessment (RIA).
An RIA sets out what the regulation aims to do, the form it will take and who/what will be effected.
The purpose of an RIA is to ensure that those effected know what's happening and are able to comment. These comments are then collated and presented to the appropriate minister before the regulation/legislation is 'switched on'. The RIA for the security guarding and key holding sectors was issued by the Home Office (the SIA's sponsorship unit) on 29 November.

Door Supervision licencing update
The roll out of door supervision licensing is continuing. Much of the country is now covered by the legislation requiring those undertaking door supervision work to hold a licence issued by the SIA.

The following regions are required to hold an SIA licence from the dates shown... North East 13 December 2004
East 03 January 2005
South East 28 February 2005
London 11 April 2005

Vehicle Immobilising licencing update
From 28 February 2005 anyone undertaking licensable vehicle immobilisation activities will require an SIA licence.
Licensable activity includes: "Immobilising, blocking in or towing away a vehicle on private land against a release fee." Applications for vehicle immobilisation licences are now being accepted. The SIA website has full details of who needs a vehicle immobilisation licence.
