An investigation is under way after a security guard was allegedly stabbed inside a court building.
A man is being held in police custody and is expected to appear in court in connection with the incident at the Court of Appeal in Edinburgh.

It is understood the guard, who worked for the private security firm Reliance, was stabbed in the back at about 1600.

He was taken to the city's Royal Infirmary but his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

A Scottish Prison Service spokesman said: "It is a serious incident and our concern is for the member of staff involved.

"It would be inappropriate to comment any further at this stage as it is a police matter."

'No comment'

A Reliance spokesman confirmed an investigation was under way into the alleged attack.

"We are investigating the situation and cooperating fully with the police and the Scottish Prison Service in their investigations," the spokesman said.

Reliance only started operating services in the capital last month after it successfully completed a shadowing operation in the Lothian and Borders force area.

Reliance is already responsible for prison escort and court custody services in the Strathclyde, Dumfries and Galloway, and Central Scotland police force areas.

The Scottish Executive declined to comment on the alleged stabbing.

A spokesman said: "We are aware of an incident. It would be inappropriate to comment further as police are investigating."
