A 24-year-old man was being questioned by Irish police tonight after illegal drugs were seized at Dublin Airport.

A search revealed 300g of cocaine, 50g of heroin and 200 Ecstasy tablets with a total estimated street value of 50,000 euro (£35,000).

The drugs, which were said to be concealed on his person and in hidden compartments in the soles of the man‘s shoes, were detected by a Customs sniffer dog named Charlie, a spokesman for the service said.

The Irish man was taken to Santry Garda Station for questioning after his arrest last night.

“This is the third seizure and arrest at Dublin Airport in the last seven days and is part of the on-going clampdown by the Revenue on the importation of drugs,” the spokesman added.

A German man was arrested on Wednesday after cocaine with an estimated street value of 300,000 euro (£210,000) was seized at the airport.

The 40-year-old man was detained when, according to a Customs spokesman, three kilos of cocaine were found concealed in his clothing after he arrived on a flight from Amsterdam.
