Yesterday, 7th Spetember, the SIA updated their licensing statistics;

Door Supervisors
Number of qualified people:  60,489
Application forms recieved:   40,353
Licenses Granted:                 31,556
Licenses refused:                   2,614

Security
Number of qualified people:    40,022
Applications recieved:              11,118
Licenses granted:                      5,611
Licenses refused:                           44

The full page of statistics is available from here http://www.the-sia.org.uk/home/about_sia/news/stats.htm

I am not quite sure what to make of these figures. We can quite clearly see the number of qualified individuals in manned guarding given as 40,022 - does this mean the other estimated 110,000 people working in this sector whom emploers have claimed have undergone training have never really had any formal security training?

Given that 44 licenses were refused and another 5,611 were granted, does this mean the SIA has still to processed the remaining 5,463 license applicants which have been submitted so far?

I find these figures confusing and not at all helpfull. The Guild will be watching for the next update in two weeks time and comparing them.
