Motorists may be interested to know that on January 25th a Standing Committee voted to ban speed camera warning devices as part of the Government's new Road Safety Bill.
The three Conservative members voted against this ban whilst the eleven Labour and Liberal Democrats voted in favour.

The ban will cover all types of devices; jammers, radar detectors, laser detectors and GPS systems and no compensation will be offered to current owners who purchased these units when they were completely legal as they have done in other cases such as hand-gun owners.

The Guild slammed the Government for what is yet another excuse to generate and maximise revenue from speed camera fines.
John Haywood, Director of the Guild said "this has absolutely nothing to do with road safety and is purely another revenue generating stream for the Government to pursue and exploit. In fact, this units where illegal 'for use' many years ago until road safety experts conceded to the fact that owners of these units were more likely to to adhere to speed limits - and the Government then acknowledged this fact and decreed that they could then be used legally from that point on.

It seems the Government has initiated yet another u-turn in order to generate more income."
