A Retail ecurity Officer guard was left clinging to the bonnet of a getaway car driven at high speed through the centre of Glasgow, after he tried to stop two thieves from escaping.
The robbers drove erratically, weaving in and out of traffic, as they tried to shake off the young Security Officer. The man's ordeal ended when the car was forced to slow down as it reached the M8.
Police say they are treating the "terrifying ordeal", which took place on Thursday, as attempted murder.
The Security Officer and a colleague tried to stop a man leaving the Sauchiehall Street branch of Bhs with stolen goods thought to be worth a four-figure sum. They followed him as he ran on to Renfield Street and into a waiting car. The 25-year-old security officer challenged the men, but they drove at him, forcing him to jump on to the bonnet. He clung on, but managed to jump off, avoiding serious injury, when it reached the M8 at Charing Cross.
