A security officer was attacked and robbed by thieves in front of shocked customers and staff at a busy bowling alley.

The 47-year-old man was hit several times on the back and shoulder with a baseball bat during a raid at Number Ten, on the Junction One Retail and Leisure Park, in Leicester Road, Rugby, at 12.15pm on Saturday.

The offender was chased by other security staff but escaped as a passenger on an off-road scrambler/sports motorbike with a black security box, which contained a small amount of cash and around £1,000 in cheques.

Police say the headlight of the bike may have been on as it sped out of the park and onto Leicester Road.

Residents later reported seeing a similar motorbike near Newbold quarry half a mile away.

The robber who attacked the security officer is white, aged about 20, 5ft 6in to 5ft 8in tall, and was wearing a navy blue hooded top with white stripes down the sleeves.

The officer was checked over by paramedics at the scene but is not thought to have been seriously hurt.

The retail park was busy at the time with shoppers and people visiting the cinema, fitness club and bowling alley.
